Frequently asked questions

What does the text minifier remove?

It can collapse repeated spaces and tabs, trim each line and remove empty lines. You can enable or disable each option.

Does minifying change my words?

No. It only changes whitespace; the words and punctuation stay the same.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Minification runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.

Can I use it on Markdown or code?

Use it carefully. Markdown and code may depend on indentation and line breaks; review the result or clean one block at a time.

Can I keep paragraph breaks?

Yes. Disable “Remove empty lines” or clean paragraph by paragraph so intentional breaks are preserved.

Why Minify Text?

Copying text from PDFs, emails, spreadsheets or web pages often brings extra spaces, tabs and blank lines that make the content harder to edit or publish. This Text Minifier cleans that formatting in one pass: it can collapse repeated spaces, trim each line and remove empty lines while keeping the original words and punctuation intact.

Use it before pasting content into a CMS, a database field, a form or a Markdown document. Minifying whitespace is also useful for preparing CSV-like lists, cleaning logs, reducing prompt size for AI tools or normalizing text copied from chat messages.

What Counts as Whitespace?

Whitespace includes spaces, tabs, line breaks and blank lines. Some of it is meaningful, such as paragraph breaks, and some is accidental, such as the extra spaces left by copied formatting. The tool lets you decide which kinds to change instead of applying a single aggressive rule to everything.

Options Explained

  • Collapse spaces: turns repeated spaces and tabs into a single space.
  • Remove empty lines: drops blank lines created by copied formatting.
  • Trim lines: removes leading and trailing spaces on every line.

Each option can be toggled independently, so you can keep intentional line breaks while still removing unwanted spacing. The result updates as you type and can be copied or downloaded as a plain text file.

When to Use It

Use the minifier when text looks visually correct but contains formatting artifacts, or when a system rejects input because of invisible whitespace. It is useful before importing text into a spreadsheet, a search index, a database or an API that expects normalized values. It is also handy for cleaning text copied from chat, email clients and PDF viewers.

Before and After

A paragraph copied from a PDF may contain extra spaces between words, a leading space on every line and several blank lines. Minifying can turn it into a compact block with one space between words and no accidental blank lines. Review the result first if the original used indentation for poetry, code or a deliberate layout.

Limitations

  • Collapsing spaces changes the text; keep a copy of the original if exact spacing matters.
  • Removing empty lines can merge separate sections that were separated on purpose.
  • Minifying does not fix spelling, punctuation or encoding problems.
  • Markdown and code may depend on indentation; use it carefully on those files.

Privacy

Everything runs locally in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, stored or sent to a server, which makes the tool safe for private notes, internal documents and proprietary content. For related cleanup, try Remove Duplicate Lines or Remove Line Breaks.
