Frequently asked questions

Does it keep the first occurrence?

Yes. The first time a line appears is preserved and later duplicates are removed.

Can I ignore case?

Yes. Enable “Case-insensitive” so “Apple” and “apple” count as duplicates.

Can I sort the result?

Yes. Enable “Sort result” to sort the unique lines alphabetically.

Does it change the original order?

No, unless you enable “Sort result”. The first occurrence of each line is kept in its original position.

Is there a size limit?

The practical limit is browser memory. For very large lists, process a sample first and keep a backup of the original data.

What Deduplication Does

Remove Duplicate Lines scans text line by line and keeps the first occurrence of each line. Later duplicates are removed. Duplicate lines sneak into lists, logs, CSV exports and pasted data all the time, so deduplication is a common cleanup step before importing data, sending an email campaign or reviewing a report.

Options

  • Case-insensitive: treats “Apple” and “apple” as the same line.
  • Trim lines: ignores leading and trailing spaces before comparing.
  • Remove empty lines: drops blank entries from the result.
  • Sort result: sorts the unique lines alphabetically.

The result updates as you type, and you can copy or download the deduplicated list immediately. For large lists, the tool still works entirely in memory on your device and does not send data anywhere.

When to Use It

Use it to clean keyword lists, remove repeated rows from exported reports, deduplicate support tickets, prepare allowlists or normalize data before importing it into another system. It is also useful for cleaning logs where the same message appears repeatedly, or for merging lists from multiple sources.

How It Works

The tool preserves the order of first appearances unless you enable sorting. With case-insensitive mode, the comparison key is lowercased, but the original first line is kept in the output. Trimming changes the comparison key and the stored line, so review the result if leading spaces are meaningful.

Large Lists and Data

For very large lists, browser memory is the practical limit. Convert or deduplicate a sample first, then process the full list. Keep a backup of the original data and verify the line count after the operation. A quick count helps catch an accidental change in the input.

Duplicates in CSV and Logs

CSV exports often repeat header rows or duplicate records, and logs may repeat the same message many times. Deduplicate a copy, then check row counts and keep the original for audit purposes. If the data is tabular, verify that the first row is still the header after deduplication.

Limitations

  • Lines are compared after the selected normalization; punctuation differences remain.
  • Similar-looking lines with different Unicode characters may not be treated as duplicates.
  • Sorting changes the original order, which may matter for logs or sequences.
  • Removing empty lines can join sections that were separated on purpose.

Privacy

Minifyr is privacy-first: deduplication happens locally in your browser, so private lists and internal data never leave your device. For spacing cleanup, run text through Text Minifier first, then remove duplicates here.
